Think of electricity like water flowing through a pipe:

Voltage (Volts, V)

Voltage is electrical potential difference — the "pressure" that drives current through a circuit. In the US, standard household outlets are 120V AC. Large appliances (dryers, ovens) use 240V. Car batteries are 12V DC.

Current (Amperes/Amps, A)

Current measures the rate of electrical charge flow — how many electrons pass a point per second. A typical phone charger uses about 1–2 amps. A clothes dryer might draw 20–30 amps.

Power (Watts, W)

Watts measure the rate of energy consumption or transfer. A 60-watt light bulb uses 60 joules of energy every second.

Ohm's Law — The Relationship Between V, A, and Ω

Ohm's Law connects voltage, current, and resistance:

V = I × R

Where V = Voltage, I = Current (amps), R = Resistance (ohms). Rearranged:

I = V ÷ R   |   R = V ÷ I

Watt's Formula — Power from Volts and Amps

Power (watts) is simply voltage multiplied by current:

P = V × I

AC vs. DC
